The Zwilling J.A. Henckels Pro 200mm Chef’s Knife was a pleaser from the first cut. It glided through cooked beef, and was easy to control when chopping vegetables. It is well-balanced with excellent sharpness. Our panellists found the professional appearance inspired confidence. The handle was too bulky for some, both in length and shape. It did not mould as well to smaller hands.
Miyabi Gyutoh 5000MCD 200mm

The Miyabi Gyotoh Chef’s Knife would make for a beautiful addition to any knife drawer. Its birch handle and Damask patterned blade make it stand out as a high-quality and elegant product. In terms of performance, it slices both easily and cleanly and is able to cut thinly. The wooden handle is soft to touch and is comfortable to hold despite its straight design. The knife is well-balanced with a good weight. It is hand-wash only and after being washed we noticed the handle is a little rougher.
Stellar James Martin IJ Cook’s Knife, 20cm

The Stellar James Martin IJ Cook’s knife is a very affordable knife with a practical design. The soft-grip handle is comfortable to hold and moulds to the hand. It sliced all foods tested cleanly and with ease; the firm blade is not flexible and the heel guard gives you extra security in case your hands slip while chopping. The blade is heavier than the handle however and some specks of rust appeared after being repeatedly washed in the dishwasher, so it is still best to hand wash if possible.
